Are you looking to try a slightly more complex knit project? Maybe try some new techniques. In this workshop we will sew up a knit cardigan with neckline band, cuffs, bottom band and buttons!
THE PATTERN: The Jamie by Ready To Sew is a loose-fitting, cozy, and versatile cardigan inspired by your grandpa's timeless style. It comes in two versions: a long design and a cropped version. Both feature a deep V-neckline, slightly puffed sleeves, and up to four buttons for closure. Jamie is a wardrobe essential that will effortlessly accompany you through all seasons. Hip measurement from 82cm to 129cm.
DESCRIPTION: skills you'll learn in this workshop:
- Laying out and cutting sewing patterns.
- Review of the terms and unique traits of knit fabrics.
- Review options for construction seams, topstitching and hems with knits and techniques for adding ribbing.
- Participants will have an opportunity to test techniques on their sewing machines. The group will also work through all the steps to sew their very own cardigan. This class is intended for a standard sewing machine with straight and zig-zag stitches; participants can also hop on one of our overlocker/sergers to try!
WHEN: Saturday October 3rd 9:30am - 4:00pm (half an hour for lunch).
WHAT'S INCLUDED: The price of the workshop includes instruction, the digital pattern & a printout of the pattern.
WHAT'S NOT: We have not included any of the fabric or supplies for this project so you can choose what you'd like. We will provide guidance for choosing appropriate fabric/supplies to participants. If you'd like to purchase your fabric/supplies at Former + Latter we are happy to offer a 15% discount. Participants will also need to bring their sewing machines* and accessories (don't forget your manual, power cord, pins and extra machine needles!). Please bring all you personal sewing tools (scissors, seam ripper, snips, tape measure, etc).
OTHER INFO: Sewists must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine and have spent some time using their machine for simple garments. We recommend that participants have taken our confident beginner 'Sew With Knits' class or equivalent.
Minimum age is 16 years.
*Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order. We request that you bring all your machine accessories and manual.

Payment in full is required to book a spot in our workshop and due to the limited number of spaces available registration is non-refundable. Discounts cannot be applied to classes. Up to two weeks in advance of the workshop, participation can be transferred to another sewist.
All participants will be contacted by email one to two weeks prior to the workshop with all the necessary details for the workshop.
The workshop is located in our Brick and Mortar retail store and we ask all participants to be respectful of the space, equipment, other participants and shoppers.
The workshop will require the use of sewing machines, pins, needles, irons, cutting tools (scissors and rotary cutters), etc. By your participation in any class, workshop, lesson, or workspace usage, you agree to release and hold harmless Former and Latter Fabrics, it’s instructors, and employees from any and all claims and liability related to any accident that may arise as a result.
