Quilted jackets are so versatile. They are also a rewarding project and there are so many options for sewing one you love. In this workshop you'll have the option to use any type of pre-quilted fabric you want! Thrift a quilt, pull one out of your closet, piece and quilt some fabric pieces in advance or work with a pre-quilted fabric off the bolt. If you have always wanted to tackle a quilted jacket, then this workshop is for you!
If you are looking for inspiration, check out the hashtags #wildwoodjacket or #grainlinetamarack on social media. Or come take a look at our Tamarack sample in store.
THE PATTERN: We have two options for participants to choose from:
- Grainline Studio "Tamarack Jacket" - Designed for a female body and includes bust darts and a welt pocket construction.
- Helen's Closet "Wildwood Jacket" - Gender inclusive and includes patch pockets.
Both patterns are available as a digital download from the pattern designer's website. Digital patterns will have to be printed in advance. You can print and tape them together or you can have the A0 or copyshop files printed locally. We use 'Put Down The Tape Pattern Printing'. You can contact them at putdownthetape@gmail.com

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED: For this project, we have not included the pattern in the price as we know many sewists have one of these patterns already.
We have also left the fabric entirely up to you! We do carry some pre-quilted fabrics, but there are so many options to make a unique quilted coat that we decided to leave this entirely up to the participant. If you choose to make your own quilted fabric to work from, we recommend approximating your size and making pieces at least 4" larger (all around) than the pattern pieces and then pre-washed as it will shrink up after quilting.
Please note all fabrics will need to be pre-washed as quilted fabrics tend to shrink in the wash. We also recommend avoiding any quilted fabrics with thick batting as they will be harder to sew and work with.
Participants will also need to bring their sewing machines* and accessories (don't forget your manual, power cord, pins and extra machine needles!). Please bring all your personal sewing tools (seam ripper, snips, tape measure, etc).
OTHER INFO: Sewists must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine and have spent some time using their machine for simple projects. This class is suited for any sewist with a little experience under their belt!
Minimum age is 16 years.
*Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order. We request that you bring all your machine accessories and manual.
