We recently connected with our lovely neighbours at Niche Climbing and have decided to collaborate! Niche will be hosting a fun chalk bag event (details coming soon) and we are offering a workshop to sew your own tote (chalk) bag!
The Lil Bucky Bag designed by Leila Makes (@leila.makes) is perfect for so many things! Originally designed as a chalk bag for rock climbing and bouldering, it is also just the right size for a small tool bag, a knitting & crochet project bag, or a lunch bag. It includes four exterior pockets, four interior pockets and an elastic drawstring closure. Two sturdy handles allow you to pack your chalk, yarn, tools or lunch wherever you want!.
This project is perfect for any sewist. You can play with fabrics to create whatever look you want - upcycle a pair of jeans, use up a pile of your scraps, or start from scratch with any awesome fabric!
DESCRIPTION: Skills you'll learn in this workshop:
- Reading sewing patterns and size charts.
- Understanding important measurements for choosing the correct size.
- Review fabric options suitable for your pattern.
- Laying out and cutting sewing patterns.
- This class is designed for a standard sewing machine (needs a zig-zag stitch). Participants can also try their hand at using one of our overlocker/sergers as well!
WHEN: This class is in two 3hr sessions:
- Wednesday November 19th 6-9pm. In this class we'll get started planning our bags, cutting out the pieces and start sewing.
- Wednesday November 26th 6-9pm. In this session we'll sew, sew, sew.
PATTERN: Leila's Lil Bucky Bag is a free pattern. You can find it here. The pattern pieces can be printed out, or marked directly on the fabric.
FABRIC: You can use whatever fabrics you like based on Leila's recommendations. Feel free to bring fabric in to upcycle, or a stack of scrap fabric. Please keep in mind the size of the pattern pieces if you decided to upcycle or scrap-bust.
ELASTIC, THREAD & TOGGLE: We have included these in the price of the workshop. No need to buy in advance.
OTHER INFO: Sewists must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine and have spent some time using their machine for simple projects. This class is suited for any sewist with a little experience under their belt!
If you haven't operated a sewing machine before, check out our "Learn to Use a Sewing Machine" class.
Participants are encouraged to bring their sewing machines* and accessories. If you don't have a sewing machine, no problem! We have 6 rentable machines that you can use for the class.
Please also bring all your personal sewing tools (seam ripper, snips, tape measure, etc) if you have them.
Participants always receive a 15% discount on fabric and notions purchased in-store during the workshop.
Minimum age is 16 years. Maximum class size is 6 participants.
*Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order. We request that you bring all your machine accessories and manual.
Payment in full is required to book a spot in our workshop and due to the limited number of spaces available registration is non-refundable. Discounts cannot be applied to classes. Up to two weeks in advance of the workshop, participation can be transferred to another sewist.
