In this workshop, you'll explore traditional block printing while creating modern lino blocks to print repeatable patterns on fabric. You'll come away with your very own 2m length of printed fabric!

Cate Kuzik (she/her) of Ochre Lea (amazing artist + maker) will guide you through all the steps including:

  • Learning to transfer drawings to linoleum
  • Carving techniques
  • Mixing Ink
  • Printing on fabric, including a repeatable pattern.

Participants will have the opportunity to carve multiple lino panels. You'll also have access to Cate's own collection of carved lino blocks. Cate will also cover the different types if linoleum and inks for relief printing and send you off ready to tackle basic printing at home! 

WHEN: The class with be held in two sessions:

  • Session 1 is Thursday October 17th from 6 - 8pm
  • Session 2 is Saturday October 19th from 10am - 4pm

DETAILS: This workshop is open to everyone interested in learning more about printmaking! The workshop includes 2m of woven cotton fabric, and all printmaking materials and tools are provided. Participants are also welcome to bring an additional 4m of their own fabric to print as well. Cate also includes an instructional PDF on what they learned and how to block print at home. 

PRICE: $185 CAD 

Payment in full is required to book a spot in our workshop and due to the limited number of spaces available registration is non-refundable. Discounts cannot be applied to classes.  Up to two weeks in advance of the workshop, participation can be transferred to another maker. 

All participants will be contacted by email prior to the workshop with all the necessary details for the workshop. 

The workshop is located in our Brick-and-Mortar retail store and we ask all participants to be respectful of the space, equipment, other participants and shoppers. 

The workshop will require the use of carving and cutting tools (scissors, utility knives), etc. By your participation in any class, workshop, lesson, or workspace usage, you agree to release and hold harmless Former and Latter Fabrics, its instructors, and employees from any and all claims and liability related to any accident that may arise as a result.
